Microprocessor-based earth fault protections type ZI0 already react to short-circuit currents of approx. 200 mA and do not require precise determination of relay setting values. They locate any type of short-circuit, detect and eliminate ferroresonance, and enable detection of insulation damage in the initial phase. They effectively protect electrical equipment (motors), lines and cables in medium voltage networks with an insulated, resistor-earthed zero point or compensated networks.

The basic application software that is included in the ZIo machines is not covered by license protection and can be freely copied and distributed. The devices have certificates of suitability for use in the power industry.
